On July 31, Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education of China, together with officials from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education, conducted a research visit in Shanghai on advancing China’s high-level opening-up in education. In the afternoon, accompanied by Zhu Xinyuan, Director General of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Vice Minister Ren paid a special visit to UNESCO-TEC and convened a meeting with faculty members.
During the meeting, Professor Zhang Minxuan, Director of UNESCO-TEC, gave a brief overview of TEC’s establishment, mission, organizational structure, distinctive areas of work, and its contributions to global education governance. Vice Minister Ren then invited each participating scholar to introduce their research focus, current responsibilities in TEC’s global and regional initiatives, and their aspirations for future development.
Vice Minister Ren spoke highly of TEC's achievements in institutional development and international engagement, and particularly commended TEC’s significant contribution to supporting the establishment of the UNESCO International Institute for STEM Education (IISTEM). Referring to the strategic vision of building China into a leading country in education by 2035, Vice Minister Ren underscored the growing demands on China’s participation in global education governance. He encouraged TEC to continue strengthening its international engagement, expand cooperation by its unique platform, and continuously share China’s educational knowledge and achievements in teacher education with the international community. He noted that these efforts would support China’s high-level opening-up in education, cultivate high-caliber professionals for international organizations, and further strengthen China’s role in global education governance in support of the country’s broader diplomatic priorities.
Director Zhu Xinyuan listened to the presentations and Vice Minister Ren’s remarks, and reaffirmed the continued support for TEC’s development and talent cultivation, further making Shanghai a hub city for international organizations in China.
