From June 15 to 16, 2024, the international conference on Construction and Model Innovation of High-Quality Teacher Education Systems was held at Northeast Normal University. Over 100 scholars from China, Singapore, South Africa, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Finland and other countries attended the conference. Professor Zhang Minxuan, Director of the Centre, Professor Kong Lingshuai, and Researcher Yang Fan were invited to participate.

Professor Zhang Minxuan was invited to deliver a keynote report entitled Knowledge Producers: The World’s New Expectations for School Teachers. He first congratulated Northeast Normal University’s Institute of International and Comparative Education on its 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the founding of Foreign Education Studies. Then, speaking entirely in English, he started from China’s traditional concept of heaven, earth, sovereign, parents, and teachers and the current context of building a strong education country, sorted out the world’s expectations for teachers since the mid-to-late 20th century, the new century, and the 2020s, and focused on exploring the latest expectation of knowledge producers that the world has put forward to school teachers. Professor Zhang Minxuan’s report aroused enthusiastic responses from the participants.


Professor Kong Lingshuai served as the host of the first half of Parallel Forum 2: Construction of Teacher Education Systems and delivered a speech. Under the title Internal Logic, Essential Characteristics and Practical Paths of High-Quality Development of Teacher Education in the Context of Chinese Modernization, Professor Kong analyzed the political, economic, cultural and technological logic that should be followed for the high-quality development of teacher education in the context of Chinese modernization, summarized its basic characteristics of people-centeredness, practicality, comprehensiveness and openness, and proposed practical paths for the high-quality development of teacher education from the dimensions of value guidance, institutional guarantee, cultural empowerment, technical support, and internal-external linkage. Meanwhile, Professor Kong Lingshuai commented on each speaker in the first half of the parallel forum.

With the theme of Construction and Model Innovation of High-Quality Teacher Education Systems, scholars from all over the world put forward their own views and insights based on local practices and international experiences, providing references for China to build a high-quality teacher education system.
