On April 23, during the 14th International Summit on the Teaching Profession, Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education, held bilateral talks with Mr. Yoshiki Takeuchi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Mr. Andreas Schleicher, Director-General of Education and Skills at OECD, relevant leaders from the Ministry of Education, and members of both delegations attended the talks. Both Huai Jinpeng and Yoshiki Takeuchi expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between China and OECD in the field of education, particularly the collaboration involving Shanghai in the PISA and TALIS assessments. Through participation in these international assessments, China has gained a clearer understanding of its remarkable educational achievements recognized worldwide, as well as the development trends of global education, especially that of developed countries. These international assessments have also enabled OECD to obtain educational development data from various countries, including China, allowing it to better provide governments with policy dialogue and recommendations supported by empirical data, vivid cases, and international comparisons.
Huai Jinpeng, Yoshiki Takeuchi, and Andreas Schleicher all highly acknowledged the role played by the Researche Institute for International and Comparative Education of Shanghai Normal University (also known as the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre) in advancing educational cooperation between China and OECD, and expressed expectations for further deepening cooperation and exchanges. Both sides supported the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre in hosting the Programme Board of the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) in July this year. After the talks, Huai Jinpeng and other leaders from the Ministry of Education took a group photo with representatives of our Centre as an encouragement.
