On the afternoon of April 26, 2024, the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre (TEC) received a delegation of 21 teachers from Putuo District Institute of Education, led by its President Liu Youxia. The delegation included middle-level administrators, Party branch committee members, and representatives of the Youth Council.
The event was chaired by Professor Wang Jie of TEC. Professor Zhang Minxuan, Director of TEC, delivered a welcome speech, introducing the centre’s responsibilities and functions. Associate Professor Zhang Huafeng, Vice Director of TEC (on secondment), presented TEC’s research and practices since its establishment, focusing on three areas: international comparative education research, participation in educational policy formulation, and active international exchanges.
At the request of Putuo District Institute of Education, Dr. Sun Yang of TEC shared his latest research entitled Proactive State Intervention and Chinese-Style Teacher Professionalization. Associate Professor Zhu Xiaohu, taking the OECD’s Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) as an example, shared his research on the development of international teacher evaluation.
In closing, Miao Yanan, Vice President of Putuo District Institute of Education, stated that the rich exchange program had enabled the institute’s teachers to gain a deeper understanding of Shanghai’s educational international perspective and strategic vision. President Liu Youxia responded that TEC’s group introduction and mini-reports, covering practical, international, and theoretical dimensions, had broadened the horizons of all participating representatives. They had also gained new insights and reflections on how to advance research and practice in teacher development team building at the regional level.
This marked a pleasant exchange between TEC and a district-level education institute in Shanghai. It is believed that such academic exchanges will open the door to exploration for new developments in regional education in the future.
