Abstract
Reading serves as the cornerstone supporting individuals' future development. Currently, many countries around the world regard enhancing students' reading ability and reading literacy as a key educational priority. Against this backdrop, various countries and regions have introduced relevant policies and initiative actions to address questions such as how students can develop reading proficiency, what kind of support families should provide, how schools can facilitate the cultivation and improvement of students' reading ability and literacy, and how society can contribute to promoting reading and creating a positive reading environment.
The PIRLS 2021 Encyclopedia: Education Policy and Curriculum in Reading provides an overview of language and reading curricula, education systems, teacher professional development, students' reading progress, and special reading programs across relevant countries and regions.
