On the morning of October 27, 2025, the second phase of the Norwegian National Centre for Mathematics Education Shanghai Seminar was inaugurated at the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre (TEC). The event brought together Associate Professor Ding Liping from the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), alongside four representatives from the Norwegian National Centre for Mathematics Education and NTNU’s Department of Teacher Education: Associate Professors Ragnhild Lyngved Staberg, Maria Irnmaculata Maya Febri, Svein Arne Sikko, and Solomon Abedom Tesfamicael. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Huang Xingfeng, Project Lead, with remarks delivered by Professor Hu Guoyong, Deputy Director of TEC. Participants included Dr. Shen Yihua, Project Expert, and master’s and doctoral students from Shanghai Normal University specializing in Comparative Education and Primary Education.

In his address, Professor Hu Guoyong extended a warm welcome to the Norwegian delegation. He noted that the seminar was expected to serve as a key opportunity to further deepen future cooperation between TEC and the Norwegian National Centre for Mathematics Education in the field of teacher professional development.

Following the address session, attendees introduced themselves individually. Associate Professor Ding Liping expressed sincere gratitude to TEC, spoke highly of the international influence of Shanghai’s mathematics education, and shared her outlook on the joint research projects that the two sides were about to launch.




Professor Huang Xingfeng emphasized that leveraging modern teaching technologies and methods for international project exchanges and cooperation plays a crucial role in enhancing teacher quality and promoting teacher professional development.

After the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Ding Liping moderated a discussion and provided an overview of the specific content of the research project, including the understanding of the joint project, the process of formulating research questions, and the process of data analysis.

Following Associate Professor Ding Liping’s introduction, participating experts held discussions on project-related issues, such as in-depth understanding of data, appropriate application of frameworks, and selection of keyword codes. The entire discussion highlighted the importance of teamwork, while further clarifying the research project’s progress schedule, timeline, and other relevant cooperation matters.




From October 27 to October 31, the Norwegian delegation will visit Shanghai Fushan Foreign Language Primary School, Shanghai Jianping Experimental Dijie Middle School, Shanghai Mingzhu Senlan Primary School, and Shanghai Pudong Institute of Education Development in sequence, conducting a four-day immersive exchange and learning program focused on mathematics teaching and research.
This seminar not only builds a cooperation bridge for the exchange of concepts and practices but also embodies the shared vision of educators from both sides for development. It is expected that the two sides will join hands to create more new achievements in the fields of mathematics education and teacher professional development.
