January 17-19, 2025, the Symposium on High-Quality Development of the International Education Innovation Island and the 16th Council Election Meeting of the Comparative Education Society of the Chinese Society of Education was held in Haikou. Hosted by the Comparative Education Society of the Chinese Society of Education and organized by Hainan Normal University, the event was attended by invited delegates from our institute, including Dean Hu Guoyong, Professor Kong Lingshuai, Associate Professor Song Jia, and Associate Professor Lü Jiexin.

On the morning of January 18, the 16th Council Election Meeting of the Comparative Education Society of the Chinese Society of Education was held first. Lü Yugang, Executive Vice President of the Chinese Society of Education and former Director of the Department of Basic Education of the Ministry of Education, delivered a speech. Liu Baocun, Chairman of the Comparative Education Society of the Chinese Society of Education and Dean of the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Beijing Normal University, presented the council’s work report. The election meeting was chaired by Professor Teng Jun, Secretary-General of the Comparative Education Society and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University.



Following a vote by member representatives, the new council and supervisors were elected. The new council then voted to appoint the 16th Chairman, Vice Chairmen, Standing Directors, and Secretary-General. Professor Liu Baocun was appointed Chairman of the 16th Council; Professor Hu Guoyong from our institute was elected Vice Chairman of the new council; Professor Kong Lingshuai was elected Standing Director; and Associate Professor Song Jia was appointed as a council member.




On the afternoon of January 18, Professor Hu Guoyong from our institute was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the Symposium on High-Quality Development of the International Education Innovation Island. His speech, entitled Educational Opening-Up, International Exchanges and Cooperation, and Comparative Education Research: Practices of the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre, provided a detailed overview of the international exchange and cooperation initiatives carried out by the Centre since its establishment, as well as the academic research, policy advisory, and talent cultivation work undertaken by our institute relying on the Centre. Finally, Professor Hu shared the future development direction of the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Shanghai Normal University, addressing the new propositions, challenges, and missions that educational opening-up in the new era poses to comparative education research.


Professor Kong Lingshuai was invited to speak at Roundtable Forum I, sharing his research insights on topics such as innovation in educational concepts and the construction of the International Education Innovation Island, institutional opening-up in education and the island’s development, and Sino-foreign cooperative education and the island’s construction.

The conference was held during a critical period for Hainan's full-island customs closure operation and shortly after the release of the Outline for Building an Educational Power (2024-2035). Attending scholars conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics including the construction of an educational power, institutional opening-up in education, and the contemporary mission of comparative education.
