On January 3, the 2024 Annual Summary Meeting of the Research Institute for International and Comparative Education (RIICE) and the Teacher Education Centre was held in a conference room at Shanghai Ocean University. Professor Zhang Minxuan, Chief Expert of the Research Institute and Director of UNESCO Teacher Education Centre (TEC); Professor Hu Guoyong, Dean of the Research Institute and Deputy Director of TEC; all members; and innovation team members attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Zhang Huafeng.

Dr. Li Ruimiao delivered a report entitled Research on the Development of AI-Enabled Adaptive Classrooms, presenting the overall design, data collection, and preliminary results of AI agent-enabled curriculum teaching. Dr. Shen Yihua gave a keynote report Cultural Resonance and Differences in Mathematics Classrooms: A Comparative Observation of Tanzania, Brazil, Norway, and China, sharing her experiences of cultural resonance, differences, and proposed solutions during cross-cultural mathematics teaching exchanges with teachers from Tanzania, Brazil, and Norway. A lively discussion ensued around the two presentations.


On behalf of the RIICE and TEC, Professor Hu Guoyong provided a comprehensive summary of achievements in mechanism building, talent introduction, scientific research, policy consultation, education and teaching, student affairs, and international exchanges and cooperation. He spoke highly of the team’s various achievements and important phased results in 2024, and expressed gratitude for everyone’s efforts and contributions.

At the meeting, researchers with outstanding performance in 2024 were commended. Associate Professor Song Jia and Associate Professor Zhu Xiaohu were awarded the Annual Comprehensive Excellence Award; Researcher Li Tingzhou, Associate Professor Xu Jinjie, and Associate Professor Song Jia received the Outstanding Research Award; and Associate Professor Zhu Xiaohu, Associate Professor Bian Cui, and Dr. Ding Ruoxi were granted the Outstanding Teaching Award.



The meeting concluded with an inspiring speech by Professor Zhang Minxuan. “Cherish the memories of 2024 and embrace 2025,” he said, encouraging all faculty members to cherish lofty ideals like looking up at the stars while taking down-to-earth actions to forge ahead. He urged everyone to jointly push the development of the Research Institute and TEC to new heights and create new glories.

On the same day, the delegation from the Research Institute also visited the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, the “Double First-Class” construction achievement exhibition of Shanghai Ocean University, the Pelagic Fisheries Science and Technology Museum, the International Compliance Centre, and the Aquatic Ecological Breeding Centre. They gained a deeper understanding of how various social venues support STEM education, how marine technological innovation drives global sustainable development, and the strategy of building a maritime power.
