UNESCO Teacher Education Centre Convenes the 3rd Advisory Expert Committee Meeting

On the morning of November 17, 2025, the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre (TEC) convened its 3rd Advisory Expert Committee Meeting. Attendees included Mr. Cheng Jieming, Emeritus Professor of the University of Hong Kong; Mr. Yang Jin, Former Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the People's Republic of China to UNESCO; Dr. Wu Jianbing, Former Lead Education Specialist of the World Bank; Professor Shahbaz KHAN, Director of the UNESCO Office for East Asia; Mr. Carlos VARGAS TAMES, Head of the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030; Professor Yuan Zhenguo, Dean of the Faculty of Education at East China Normal University; Mr. Jordan NAIDOO, Distinguished Professor of TEC and Former Executive Director of the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning; and Professor Zhang Minxuan, Director of TEC.

Professor Zhang Minxuan opened the meeting by reviewing TEC’s progress in team building, infrastructure improvement and talent development over the 2024-2025 period, with a focus on its achievements across four core pillars over the past year: knowledge production, capacity building, technical services and information sharing. He also briefed the attendees on TEC’s 2026-2029 Development Plan and Action Agenda, and invited the experts to offer valuable recommendations.

The experts spoke highly of TEC’s accomplishments and provided insightful suggestions for its future development. They conducted in-depth discussions on key areas including TEC’s strategic positioning, cooperation models, resource development and sustainable development, reaching consensus on multiple critical development directions. The experts advised TEC to continue leveraging its strengths as an international platform, deepen global cooperation, and contribute more to advancing global teacher education.


Professor Zhang Minxuan thanked the experts for their guidance, noting that TEC would fully incorporate their insights into its future development plans. He stated that TEC would continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to expand its international cooperation network, jointly elevate global teacher education to a new stage of higher-quality development, and contribute "Shanghai Wisdom" to the realization of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
